What is the value of small Niyama bided by us or our family on us? Give a thought to it, till then let me narrate a story to you.
Story of Dhankirti
When Dhankirti was in his mother’s womb, the king of that kingdom send a order of marriage of his minister with Dhankirti’s sister at their home but the minister was not good by character and it was not easy to refuse king’s order too so his father decided to leave the kingdom with his daughter and wife. But as his wife was pregnant so he left her to his friend’s Merchant Sridutt house .
Words of Muni
Once his mother was watching a Muni Aahar . The Muni was blessed with Avadhi Gyan so when they crossed there door he told her that her son will be very lucky and will become the richest merchant in the town. Listening to Muni’s words Merchant Sridutt became jealous.
When the baby was born Sridutt told his mother that his child was born dead and gave the child to hunter to kill him. But looking at the innocent face of Dhankirti the hunter’s heart transformed and he left the baby in forest under the tree. After some time a relative of Merchant Sridutt was crossing the jungle saw the baby and take him with him at his home.
The family was very happy and planned to celebrate Dhankirti’s arrival. They invited Sridutt too incelebration at home. But after watching the baby Sridutt recognized him. He took the baby with and gave him to some other person to kill him. But this time also the person felt affectionate to baby and left him in the forest again.
This time a gwala was crossing the forest and suddenly his cows started to make the noise and one of the cow was feeding him milk. Gwala saw this empathicaly and took the baby with him and raised him.
Once Sridutt visited the gwala for milk, he watched there Dhankirti. He asked the gwala who is this boy? Gwala narrated the whole story to Sridutt, after listening the story, Sridutt understood that who the boy is.
Sridutt gave a letter to Dhankirti to deliver it urgently at his home. Dhankirti took the letter to deliver it on his way but soon he felt tired and lay down under a tree to rest.
A girl named Anantsena looked him and saw a letter hanging in his neck. She took the letter and read it. It was written in the letter that “kill this boy, who is bringing the letter immediately after reading it, as this boy is dangerous”.
Letter by Anantsena
Anantsena felt compassionate towards the boy and change the letter and write it over there that “without waiting for anyone or anything, even the father, marry his unmarried daughter with this boy immediately”. Soon the letter reaches through Dhankirti to Shridutt’s home so after reading the letter his son married his sister with Dhankirti.
When Sridutt came back home . He found the boy alright. He became furious seeing him as his son in law. Now he send him to temple with Pooja thali and told the person in the temple that kill that whoso ever bring Pooja thali in temple that day. On his way to temple Dhankirti met Shridutt’s son. He told him that his sister is calling Dhankirti and I will give the Pooja thali in the temple.
When he went to temple the the person in the temple, killed Shridutt’s son in place of Dhankirti. Shridutt heard this and he and his wife got in deep grief. He told everything to his wife. Now his wife took the charge to kill Dhankirti. She made a poisonous sweet for Dhankirti but mistakenly the sweet was eaten by his own husband Shridutt and he died. Watching this his wife got in grief and she suicide by eating the poisonous sweet.
Merchant Dhankirti
Now after the death of Shridutt’s whole family, as the position of his son in law, Dhankirti became Merchant Dhankirti dodging the death 5 times. After he became a prestigious merchant he found his biological parents too and start living peacefully with his family.
But he always thought why all this happened to him. So he went to a Muni with his family. There, his father asked the Muni, the reason of all this threats and problems to his son. Muni replied that in previous birth your son was a fisherman . His name was Mragsen.
Niyama of Mragsen
One day on his way to home Mragsen saw a Muni and asked him to give him a Niyama because he was a fisherman so Muni gave him a Niyama that he will leave the life of first fish he ever caught. He agreed and went to home. One day when he throw his net to catch the fish he caught a very big fish but he recalled his niyama and tie a tread on fish’s head and left it in the water.
He again throw the net again he caught the same fish. This happened 5 times repeatedly and every times he left the fish. Now he came home with nothing so his wife got furious and scolded him for taking niyama and asked him to leave the home.
At night he sat under the tree to take the rest where a snake bites him and he died. Because of his firm determination towards his niyama, he became Merchant Dhankirti in his present birth and as it was the debt of that fish who repay him in the form of Anantsena by saving his life through changing that letter.
The Cycle of Karma
So what we come to know or understand from this story so far is that our Karama never leaves us alone or we can not run from the cycle of karma in this life or the other. What we do we get. For every action their is equal reaction. Therefore niyama are like the speed breaker on the road that limit your speed of bad deeds or Karma.
